Liên Từ (Conjunctions) trong IELTS

1. Liên từ kết hợp (Coordinating Conjunctions)

• Cách dùng: Kết nối các từ, cụm từ hoặc mệnh đề ngang hàng.
• Ví dụ:
  • For: I was tired, for I had been working all day.
  • And: She likes tea and coffee.
  • Nor: He didn’t come, nor did he call.
  • But: She is smart but lazy.
  • Or: You can have tea or coffee.
  • Yet: He is rich, yet he is not happy.
  • So: She was ill, so she went to the doctor.

2. Liên từ phụ thuộc (Subordinating Conjunctions)

• Cách dùng: Kết nối mệnh đề phụ với mệnh đề chính.
• Ví dụ:
  • Because: I stayed at home because it was raining.
  • Although: Although he is rich, he is not happy.
  • Since: She has been happier since she changed jobs.
  • If: If it rains, we will stay at home.
  • When: Call me when you arrive.
  • While: He read a book while she watched TV.

3. Liên từ tương quan (Correlative Conjunctions)

• Cách dùng: Luôn đi đôi và kết nối các từ, cụm từ hoặc mệnh đề.
• Ví dụ:
  • Either…or: You can either come with us or stay at home.
  • Neither…nor: He is neither smart nor hardworking.
  • Both…and: Both the teacher and the students were happy.
  • Not only…but also: She is not only beautiful but also intelligent.
